Assisted stretching, as its name suggests, is a type of applied stretching technique with the support of another individual. With the assistance of a partner, it gives us the opportunity to move beyond our natural resistance and to extend our range of motion and flexibility.
In this digital age, where we are mostly plugged into the technology world, the tendency to have hunched, elevated shoulders, tight hips and a forward head posture is extremely commonplace. Sitting for extended periods of time can cause our muscles fibers to contract and shorten, especially in our hip flexors and the front and sides of the body, which usually leads to tightness and tension of the body. Our range of motion is thus affected.
As some of these places are not as accessible due to physical limitations or simply harder to reach, assisted stretching can be beneficial. With consistent stretching, our body is able to remain/improve its flexibility, mobility and range of motion, enabling us to live with less pain and more ease.
This course is ideal for anyone wanting to help others and learn various ways to release tension and tightness in the body. For a Yoga Teacher, it offers you more support and knowledge in postural alignment. This course is a component of Yoga Therapeutics.
Yogapoint Singapore also includes these stretching techniques in some of our classes, and in the personal one-to-one therapy sessions.
