ABILITY IS LIMITLESS
The name Mallakhamb is derived from the word ‘malla’ meaning wrestler and ‘khamb’ meaning pole. Mallakhamb (translated as 'wrestler's pole' or later on ‘pole gymnastics’) is a traditional Indian sport originating from wrestlers using wooden poles in their training, and later leading to performances/executions of postures or stunts with a metal pole, cane or rope. In this course, we focus primarily on the utilisation of rope in Mallakhmab, involving strength, practice of Yoga postures and exercises.
Led by 5 times Rope Mallakhamb Champion in India, Sulakshana Rau, our Rope Mallakhamb is the first of its kind in Singapore. You will see hand-made cotton ropes, specially made in India, suspending from overhead support as you walk into class - the only 'prop' you have. But fret not! Warm-up exercises and the basics of Rope Mallakhamb will be taught step-by-step by our lovely instructor before you perform them on your own.
Challenging and fun, it utilises the coordination and strength of your whole body with emphasis on your arms, legs, core and spine. You may find more dormant muscles working harder than usual but now that more parts of you are working together, your overall balance, speed, endurance and flexibility are enhanced.
